BALTIC, S.D. – Chelsea Moe, a first-time voter, graduate of Baltic High School, and campaign worker for the committee supporting Initiated Measure 10, Wednesday faxed a letter to Attorney General Larry Long, requesting that the Attorney General investigate a violation of South Dakota Campaign Finance Law by the “No on 10” Ballot Question Committee.
“The opponents of Measure 10 have done everything in their power to try and stifle openness and transparency in government, including openly breaking the law,” said Moe. “Campaign finance laws are meant to protect the people, and yet here you have a campaign committee supported by tax-funded organizations intentionally breaking the rules.”
According to Moe, the “No on 10” committee, which has primarily been supported by the South Dakota Municipal League, sent a letter September 9th to South Dakota political candidates requesting a statement of support. The letter does not, however, bear the language indicating who paid for the letter as required by South Dakota Campaign Finance law.
South Dakota law requires that any printed political communications contain the phrase “Paid for by (Name of candidate, political committee, or political party)”. http://legis.state.sd.us/statutes/DisplayStatute.aspx?Statute=12-27-15&Type=Statute
